Douglas E. Johnston's Obituary
Mr. Douglas E. Johnston, age 75, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning at a local hospital. Doug was born at home in Twin Lake on March 9, 1934 to Earl and Edith (Staple) Johnston and was a 1952 graduate of Holton H.S. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1952 to 1960. Mr. Johnston was former Operations Supervisor at the B.C. Cobb Plant, Consumers Energy until retiring in 1990 after 231/2 years. Doug was a member of the Muskegon Elks # 274 and enjoyed hunting and fishing. It was his grandchildren that captured his heart, every moment cherished and remembered. Doug married the former Betty M. Knobe on February 5, 1966 and she survives him along with two loving daughters, Debra (Ron) Piasecki of Grand Haven and Connie (Bob) Smith of Fruitport; four grandchildren, Carla (Travis) Koopman, Curt (Emily) Rouwhorst, Gregory (Courtney) Smith and Gary (Jorri) Smith; great-granddaughter, Alexis Rouwhorst and three sisters, Nancy Phillips of Twin Lake, Pat (Don) Grant of Whitehall and Bonnie (Bud) Tyler of Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jimmy and sister, Peg.
