Mr. Douglas E. “Doug” Ashley, Jr., age 24, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 21, 2004. He was born November 14, 1980 in Grand Rapids, and had been a Nunica area resident for most of his life. Doug attended Fruitport and Spring Lake Schools, worked for Filius Construction, and also owned and operated a security business. He loved the outdoors, cars, and snowmobiling. SURVIVORS include his daughter, Mackenzie Ashley; father, Douglas E. (Marcie Estes and her children, Eric, Chad, and Karman) Ashley, Sr. of Muskegon; mother, Marleen (Joseph) Homik of Sullivan Twp.; siblings, Sheri (Jason) Church of Twin Lake, Jill (Dan Thiebout) Ashley of Casnovia Twp., Andrew Ashley of Sullivan Twp., Michelle (Jessie) Garner of Norfolk, VA, Kortney Homik of Sullivan Twp.; grandparents, Gil and Alvina Hockey of Conklin, Mary Ashley of Grand Haven; great-grandmother, Georgianna Monette of Muskegon; 2 nieces, Kayla and Olivia Thiebout; and special friend, Melissa Calkins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather; Donald K. Ashley, Jr. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Saturday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. Muskegon, MI 49441 (231) 759-8565 with Rev. Fr. William A. Langlois officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the education fund for Mackenzie Ashley.
