Dr. Andrew G. Nyboer's Obituary
Dr. Andrew George Nyboer, age 95, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Robbinswood Assisted Care, Grand Haven, MI.
“Andy” was born February 4, 1916 in Holland, MI to Jan and Geesje (DeWitt) Nyboer. He was one of 12 children, faithfully raised and became a follower of Jesus Christ at Fourth Reformed Church, Holland. Andy always remembered his seat and exact pew the family sat in every Sunday.
He attended Holland Public Schools. He graduated from Hope College in 1939, then attended Loyola Dental School in Chicago, IL. He met Marion Stroberg while she was attending Presbyterian St. Luke’s School of Nursing. They were married at the old Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL, by Dr. Hugh Bannen, the “The Marrying Parson” of that time in the United States. Previously, Dr. Bannen had been a pastor in Princeton, IL.
After serving in the army as a captain, they moved to Rockford, IL where Andy practiced dentistry for over 35 years. Together Marion and Andy raised four children: Jacquelyn (Glenn) VanWieren, Holland, MI; Jill (Harry) Rumohr, Mason, MI; Rebecca Ratering, Green Lake, WI; Dutch (Cyndy) Nyboer, Nunica, MI. They have been blessed with 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Much of Andrew’s time over the years had been given to his church, (Trinity Lutheran, Hope Reformed, Westminster Presbyterian, Covenant Life), Young Life and many civic and professional organizations. Together Andrew and Marion had a remarkable effect on the lives of teenagers and adults. The years 1961-85 were a special time when they led a Young Life club in Rockford, IL.
Andrew is survived by Marion, wife of 67 years, residing at Robbinswood Assisted Living Community, Grand Haven, MI 49417; brother, Dr. Robert Nyboer, Fullerton, CA; sister-in-law, Mrs. Martha Nyboer, Grosse Pointe, MI; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Betty Jean (Stroberg) Konstant, Winnetka, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
