Dr. David John Veeneman's Obituary
Dr. David John Veeneman, age 61, of Ferrysburg passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at home, surrounded by his family after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 24, 1950 in Grand Haven, to Melvin H. and Gertrude (Kantola) Veeneman, and he married his high school sweetheart, the former Lorraine Klein, on July 9, 1971 in Marne, MI.
A 1968 Coopersville High School graduate, David went on to graduate from Michigan State University in 1972 and the University of Michigan Medical School in 1976. David did his residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, and was a pediatrician in Grand Haven for 32 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and an avid golfer. He also enjoyed fishing and loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He will be forever loved and missed by his loving wife, Lorraine; daughters, Chelsie (Chad) Weigle of Grand Haven and Megan Veeneman of Ferrysburg; son, Jonathon (Jennifer) Veeneman of Nunica; grandchildren: Katie, Johanna, and Hunter Weigle; and Fisher and Hadley Veeneman; his mother, Gertrude Veeneman of Coopersville; 3 sisters: Sheryl (Russ) Lillie of Coopersville, Elaine (Herb) Schoenborn of Conklin, and Diane (Jim) Meerman of Coopersville; 2 brothers, Lee (Brenda) Veeneman of Nunica and Dan (Sue) Veeneman of Coopersville. He was preceded in death by his father Melvin.
The Funeral Mass for Dr. David Veeneman will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, September 19, 2011, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Fr. William Langlois as celebrant. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday, September 18th, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lakeshore Cemetery.
