Dr. Joseph G. Horan, Jr. DDS's Obituary
Dr. Joseph G. Horan, Jr. DDS, age 74, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Poppen Residence. He was born on June 19, 1937 in Muskegon to Joseph and Edith (McDonald) Horan, Sr. and resided in the area all of his life. Dr. Horan was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, the Vikings Lodge, and spent 6 years in the Army Reserves and Army. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Schools and then Muskegon Catholic High School. Dr. Horan went on to the University of Michigan School of Dentistry before graduating in 1966, and worked 30 years before retiring in the 1990’s. He was a “proud Lakeside boy” with growing up and having his dental practice in the Lakeside area. Dr. Horan was an avid sports fan, especially the University of Michigan and loved to participate in golf and bowling leagues. He married the love of his life, Norma Jean Todd, on December 17, 1960. Norma Jean worked for her husband for many years as a dental hygienist and office manager. SURVIVORS also include 1 brother, Michael (Carol) Horan of Venice, FL; 1 sister, Janet (Robert) Miklosovic of Fruitport; brother-in-law, Richard (Barbara) Todd; and many nieces and nephews. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 10AM Friday at St. Marys Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Matthew Barnum and Rev. Fr. R. Louis Stasker concelebrating. VISITATION will be at church from 9:00 to 10:00 AM Friday. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Dr. Horan’s name to the American Lung Association, St. Marys Catholic Church or the Muskegon County Catholic Education Foundation.
