Dr. Thomas Cron's Obituary
Thomas Henry Cron, O.D., age 81, of Spring Lake, passed away Monday, December 19, 2005, at his home. Born September 6, 1924 to Charles W. and Mary M. (Beiersdorfer) Cron in Celina, OH, he married Evelyn Louise Reichard on May 29, 1948 in Dayton, OH. Dr. Cron served with the US Army during WWII. He earned his bachelors degree from the University of Dayton in 1948 and his doctor of optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 1953. Dr. Cron moved to Michigan from Ohio 50 years ago and practiced optometry at Fox’s Jewelry in Grand Rapids and later at Muskegon Co-Optical, Nu Vision Optical and Rx Optical. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Spring Lake where he was active as a reader, Eucharistic minister and member of the liturgy commission. Dr. Cron was a well-known local thespian and gamer, and a former member of the Ferrysburg City Council. Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Evelyn L. Cron; two daughters, Barbara (Douglas) Cron Nastally of Brownsburg, IN and Susan (Michael) McDermott of Bloomfield Hills, MI; five sons, Michael (Connie) of Canadian Lakes, MI, Rev. Steven of Grand Rapids, MI, Kenneth (Jolene) of Vicksburg, MI, Ron (Kathy) of Muskegon, Joseph (Jill) of Federal Way, WA; 12 grandchildren: Cara (Jason), Andy (Chaunsa), Nick, Stacy, Kevin (Krista), Sarah, Karl, Ian, Armando (Krissy), Gene, Ben and Emily; 10 great grandchildren: Lilly, Maya, Porter, Jared, Celia, Nina, Jordan, Heaven, Jasmine and Kylie; and his brother, James (Elyce) Cron of Utica, MI. He was preceded in death by his grandson Jeffrey. A funeral liturgy for Dr. Thomas H. Cron will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with the Rev. Steven D. Cron as celebrant. Friends may meet the family at church Thursday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 p.m., with a scripture service at 8:00 p.m.; and also at church Friday one hour prior to the service, 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
