So sad and least expected. Wow, that's not anything you can defend against - some criminal running from the police! At least Duane did not end up a cripple lingering in hospital for weeks. He called about a month ago, as he frequently did, and we talked for a long time; he said he was surprised to have made it to 92. He always asked about our kids, Jonathan and Janell who live in the Wash. DC area, not far from Charlie. He had a long life. I'll miss sending him Oroblanco's for Christmas. He commented that DaD, Norman, lived to 92 and "Viola" , our mom, to age 97 - and that with those good genetics we kids might make it to our 90's too, Lord willing. He lamented that he could not continue to play Pickleball because his knees hurt. Around 1960, I first remember Duane when he came by Concord. I was in University of California studying engineering and drove my first car, a 1955 6-cyl Chev. Duane, on a business trip, was visiting Caterpillar in Oakland to discuss camshafts and visited us for dinner. I remember he smoked a big cigar. Duane wanted to give me a "special cam" to improve the performance of the Chev-6 (which DaD nixed). At that time Duane was providing racing cams to Ed Iskenderian. Isky cams were a legend with hot-rodders.
