Duane A. Root's Obituary
Duane A. Root, age 82, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019. He was born January 29, 1937 in Powell, SD to Raymond and Clara (Rhineschmicht) Root and lived in the area since 1969. On June 1, 1957, he married the former Myrna Carey in Salem, SD. Duane worked 24 years at General Dynamics Land Systems and retired as a Systems Manager in 1997. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. SURVIVORS include his wife of 61 years, Myrna Root; 3 children, Kelly Root, Stephen (Susan) Root, Timothy (Eva) Root; 1 son-in-law, Anthony Roman; 3 grandchildren, Elodie Root, Connor Roman, Sarah Roman; and 2 sisters, Bonnie Morris and Shirley (John) Fischer. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristy Roman; his parents; 1 brother, Bill Root and 1 sister, Jean McKillop. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St.) with Rev. Msgr. R. Louis Stasker presiding. VISITATION will be held 4-7PM Sunday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with the Rosary prayed at 4:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11AM Monday at the church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
