Earl Guthrie Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Earl L. Guthrie Sr., age 85, passed away Friday, December 24, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born May 5, 1919, in Chattanooga, TN. to Chester and Carrie (Sparger) Guthrie. Earl served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was married to the former Dorothy Balcom for 38 years prior to her passing on January 30, 1990. Earl owned and managed several service stations in the Muskegon area over the course of 30 years, including Earl and Ray’s Zephyr on Broadway. He also spent 12 years with Brunswick Corp. prior to his retirement. Earl was an avid fisherman and enjoyed making craft projects and outdoor ornaments. He had attended Evanston Ave. Baptist Church for many years. Earl is SURVIVED by his loving companion and friend Judith A. Woller; his 6 children, Carol (Walter) Keur, Sandra (Donald) Kelley, Earl Lee Guthrie Jr., Betty Jean (David) Nelson, Carrie Marie Crane, all of Muskegon; James William Stodola of Chico, CA.and Jean Marie (David) Page of Irons, MI.; 12 Grandchildren; and 13 Great Grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 29, at the Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI, 231-726-5210, with Pastor John H. Brown officiating. INTERMENT will be made in Norton Cemetery.
