Earl Joseph Vieau's Obituary
Earl Joseph Vieau, age 91, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center. He was born June 26, 1922 in Cheboygan, Michigan to George and Melvina (Lahaie) Vieau. He was married to the former Catherine Nichols for 53 years and she preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Vieau served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was assigned to the Grand Haven-based Dredge Hains, where he was known for his creative fabrication skills. Mr. Vieau was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. He loved animals, woodworking, was an avid walker, and was always happy to help a neighbor.
He is lovingly remembered by his four children: Kay (John) Paul and Linda Eberling both of Vero Beach, Florida, Deborah (David) Freeze of Spring Lake, and Michael (Lori Bleich) Vieau of Grand Haven; eight grandchildren: Karen Esposito, John B. Paul, Susan Wright, Wendy Tkaczyszyn, Kim and Kelly Freeze, and Nick and Jake Vieau; and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Eileen Holbern and Shirley Armantrout of Cheboygan. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Elric, Lawrence, Donald, Alvin, and Joe; and three sisters: Mabel Brugh, Rose Basore, and Clare Blume.
A Funeral Service will held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2014 at St. Patrick – St. Anthony Parish with Rev. Fr. Michael Olson officiating. Visitation will be held 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
