Earlene "Granny" Kelly-Gabalis' Obituary
Mrs. Earlene “Granny” Kelly-Gabalis, age 102, of Grand Haven passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. She was born September 17, 1916 in Champaign, IL to Earl and Stella (Jeffries) McManamy. On November 19, 1933 she married David E. Kelly and he preceded her in death on October 2, 1952. She later married Joseph Gabalis and he preceded her in death in 1968.
Granny moved to Grand Haven in 1978 after retirement. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Granny enjoyed looking into genealogy, traveling and reading. She also crocheted and knitted as a wonderful pastime over the years. She made many garments for the Holiday Mitten Tree and for the St. John’s Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Granny is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Ronald) Young of Robinson Twp; two grandsons, Troy (Sue Behm) Young, and David (Vicky Blodgett) Young; four great-grandchildren: Garret, and Macy Young, Sierra, and River Young; and her cat, Jerry. She was preceded in death by her son, David E. Kelly, Jr.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, September 29, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Lassanske officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday, September 28, 2018, at The VanZantwick Chapel (620 Washington Ave.). Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Granny may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community or God’s Pantry – St. John’s Lutheran Church.
