Edith E. Dorn's Obituary
Edith E. Dorn, age 89, met her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 21, 1933, to Alfred and Berta (Tober) Baumgart in East Prussia, Germany, making her way to Michigan in 1951. Edith was a dedicated employee of Ottawa Steel, where she worked for 30+ years and met the love of her life Alfred "Al" Dorn. They married on September 24, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church and spent the next 62 years together full of love and laughter. Edith loved spending time in her yard gardening and tending to her flowers. She had a knack for crochet and knitting and loved feeding her birds. Edith and Al enjoyed socializing with other members of the GBU club which they were long time members. They had a passion for dancing and could be found waltzing and doing the polka at clubs across West Michigan. After Al's death, she continued her passion for live music at the Monday Night Jam Sessions. Saturday mornings were dedicated to the Tom Sanocki radio show and then later in the evening she enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk. She was a very independent woman and was still driving herself to her weekly hair appointment with Bill (for 37 years!) at his salon. Above all, Edith truly loved spending time with her family. She loved hosting (dinner) parties celebrating every special occasion. Edith was a woman who knew no stranger and was a friend to everyone. Her generous, kind and vivacious spirit will be very missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her brother, Siegfried “Sig” (Margie) Baumgart; three nieces, Amy (Garrett) Pourron, Sandy Baumgart, and Heidi Baumgart; nephew, David Baumgart; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Alfred “Al” Dorn. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior on Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 527 Taylor Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. Memorial Contributions in Edith’s honor can be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
