Edna May Gilbert's Obituary
Edna May Gilbert, age 101, passed away Friday, March 20, 2020 at Christian Care Living Center. She was born October 19, 1918 in Muskegon to William and Alza (Parker) Kampenga and lived her entire life in the area. On November 7, 1941, she married Clement G. Gilbert in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2008. Edna worked many years ago as a secretary for Old Dutch Refinery and Bennett Pump Company but spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church and was very active during her years on the Outreach Committee, Nominating Committee, and Memorial Committee. Edna was also a former member of the Oakridge Golf Club and Lincoln Golf Club. She volunteered for 15 years with the Cherry Guild. She was an avid skier belonging to the Caberfae Ski Club and enjoyed bowling on a league. Survivors include 2 children, Bruce W. (Linda) Gilbert and Sharon “Sharie” K (Steven) Lee; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie, Angela, Jaime, Brett, David; 3 great grandchildren, Jaycee, Marlowe, Leni. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” L Pyka, 1 brother, Russell Kampenga, and 2 sisters, Marian Austin and Lois Robertson.
