Edna Luella Nelson's Obituary
Mrs. Edna Luella Nelson, age 104, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 in Grand Haven. She was born in Nunica, Michigan on April 2, 1912 to Paul and Ola (Englert) Merkins. Mrs. Nelson had worked at Muskegon Piston Ring before retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church of Nunica and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Muskegon. On December 1, 1945, Edna married Lester Nelson and he preceded her in death on October 19, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Grace Merkins and three brothers, Harold, Arnold and Carl Merkins. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Phyllis (Ken) Neitzel, Lorraine (Ed) Fredrick, Leonard (Germaine) Merkins, Jean Sladek, Donna (Ron) Perysian, Roger (Sandy) Merkins, Don (Holly) Merkins, Sharon (Gary) McCormick, Ken (Terri) Merkins, Kathleen (Tom) Webb, Dixie Coleman and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 20, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church (11261 South St, Nunica, MI 49448) with Rev. Brennan Woell officiating. VISITATION will be from 1:30 – 4:30 PM Sunday, February 19, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Mrs. Nelson’s memory may be made to St Luke Lutheran Church Building Fund Principal/Memorial Fund.
