Edna Suchecki's Obituary
Edna Suchecki, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 3, 2023. Edna was born on November 11, 1941, to Johann and Annie DeYoung in Grand Haven, Michigan. She was a lifelong member of the Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church, through which she met her devoted husband of 62 years, George Suchecki. She was a graduate of the Grand Rapids School of Cosmetology, a field in which she spent many years helping people look their best.
Edna had a quick smile, loved to laugh and had the true gift of hospitality. Her kind and generous spirit put everyone around her at ease. As an accomplished baker, cook and hostess, Edna, along with her loving husband, George, opened up their home to countless people from every walk of life. Strangers quickly became friends. She loved unconditionally and personified walking humbly with God.
Ever the adventurer, Edna remarkably had been on 55 cruises and traveled extensively including trips to France, Mexico, Egypt, The Holy Lands, Alaska and most of the other 50 states. She thoroughly enjoyed being “on the go “-whether it be a taking a walk on the Grand Haven Pier or jet-setting across the ocean. Edna and George enjoyed planning trips together, then documenting their journeys in photo albums. Her love for travel and her can-do attitude made her a valuable team member on the various mission trips she and George had taken to Central America.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Johan and Annie DeYoung and her sister, Margaret Ann Diephouse. She is survived by her husband, George Suchecki; her sister, Harriet Jean VanOordt. Edna is the cherished mother of Brenda (Nathan) Tuttle, Tami (David) Bock and Jill (Gary) Piwko, beloved grandmother of Jonathan (Brenda) Tuttle, Joshua (Carissa) Tuttle, Benjamin (Kristine) Tuttle, Alex Bock, Annalee (Marcus) Bryant, Amanda Bock, and Dylan Piwko and beloved great-grandmother to Emma Jean Tuttle.
Always the family advocate, cheerleader and confidant, Edna mastered the skill of listening, serving selflessly, and was game for any activity with the family. All will hold dear the special memories made with her during summers at Upper Silver Lake and winters in Panama City Beach, from kayak rides to climbing the dunes to long strolls in the surf. Majestic sunsets over the water will always bring her to mind, as she would encourage all who were present to sit down, revel in the beauty and savor the moment. "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Psalm 19:1
