Edward Knoll's Obituary
Mr. Edward D. Knoll, age 88, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center. He was born January 23, 1930 in Grand Haven to Gerrit and Tena (Wierenga) Knoll. On January 26, 1951 he married Elaine Steigenga and she preceded him in death on September 29, 2012.
Ed served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Ferrysburg Community Church and had served as the Grand Haven Township Treasurer. Ed owned the Beacon Restaurant for many years. He enjoyed volunteering after retirement especially for Love in Action. Ed also had a hobby of working with stain glass and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sons, Gregory (Joyce) Knoll of Clayton, NC and Steven (Ann) Knoll of Grand Haven; four grandchildren: Timothy (Nadine) Knoll, Jonathan (Lori) Knoll, Christopher (Stacy) Knoll and Mitchell Knoll; four great-grandchildren: Mason, Reese, Jordan, and Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rena (Martin) Hart; brother, Claude “Bud” (Natalie) Knoll.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Ferrysburg Community Church with Chaplain Duane Smith officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 – 7:00 PM Friday, February 2, 2018 at The VanZantwick Chapel (620 Washington Ave). Memorial contributions may be given to Love in Action or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
