Mr. Edward Eugene Nowak Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Edward Eugene Nowak, Sr., age 85, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 at his home. He was born November 5, 1926 in Muskegon to Edward and Stella (Rozycki) Nowak and lived his entire life in the area. He graduated from St. Mary Catholic High School in 1944. Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines and served toward the end of WWII. On September 11, 1954, he married the former Georgiana I. Zarimba in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on April 1, 2001. He worked as a meat cutter for the family businesses, Nowak’s Market and later Zoromski’s Food Market. He retired in 1990 from Meijer, Inc. where he worked in the meat department. Edward was a renown accordionist and founder for several area polka bands including the Old Timers Polka Band. He was inducted into the Michigan Polka Hall of Fame in 1978. Edward was also the past president of the Circus Model Builders of Michigan. He was active in a number of area fraternal organizations including the Catholic War Vets. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and building circus models. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Michael Nowak, Marianne (James) Clarke, Edward (Karen) Nowak, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, Jessica (Don) Jordan, Laura Nowak, Alex Nowak, Katie Clarke, Brian Nowak, Greg (Rebecca) Nowak; 1 sister, Rosemary Klemp; 1 brother-in-law, John (Judy) Zarimba; special friend, Joanne Swanson; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Casimir Zoromski and 1 sister, Dolores Nowak. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Brown as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans assisted by the Catholic War Vets. VISITATION will be held 4-8 PM Monday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565. The Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 PM Monday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Tuesday at the church.
