Edward C. "Ted" Sutherland's Obituary
Mr. Edward Clark “Ted” Sutherland, age 89, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, December 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving friend and care giver, as well as his family. He was born in Muskegon on April 21, 1924 to Edward and Alice (Kirby) Sutherland, and lived in the area all of his life. Ed was a member of the 1942 graduating class of Muskegon High School where he was a proud member of the Big Red Marching Band. He attended Muskegon Junior College as well as Mississippi State University. Ed was known mostly as “Ted” to his family, classmates and neighbors. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country in WWII in the European Theatre. Ed was employed as a patternmaker in the Muskegon area for 42 years, 28 of those years at Anderson Pattern and 14 years as Co-Owner/Treasurer of Muskegon Pattern. He was an avid golfer and member of the “Old Timers” league with his good friends. Ed enjoyed stream fishing as well as being an avid Detroit Tigers and Red Wings fan. He was very interested in his genealogy making several trips to upstate New York to connect with relatives. Ed was a long time member of the Linne #57 Viking Lodge. On June 26, 1948 he married the former Barbara “Babs” Lindback, and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2005. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Christine (Robert) McArthur of Muskegon, Ann (Dan) Morgan of Muskegon, John Sutherland of Grand Rapids, and Barbara (Tom) Gudelsky of Grand Haven, MI; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a dear and loving friend, Florence Lilmars. Also preceding him in death were 3 sisters, Genevieve Buttner, Edna Hulander, Alice Parnell; and son-in-law, Arnold VanDyk. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 1PM Friday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 12-1PM.
