Edward Volovlek, Sr.'s Obituary
Edward Volovlek, Sr., age 91, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at a local care facility. He was born September 17, 1916, in West Olive to Joseph and Mary (Zupancic) Volovlek, and he married the former Leona Wassink on March 30, 1940, in Grand Haven.
Mr. Volovlek was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area and was employed as a supervisor at Challenge Machinery for 41 years prior to his retirement in 1978. He most recently enjoyed working as a blueberry farmer. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Slovenian Farmers Club, and he enjoyed baseball, music, and fishing.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Leona; two daughters, Alice Mayer of West Olive and Rosemary (Mike) Cain of Palm Harbor, FL; two sons, Edward J. (Bonnie) Volovlek and Robert J. (Dennise) Volovlek, both of West Olive; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Resner and Ann Dokey; and two brothers, Joseph and Frank Volovlek.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2008, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven with Rev. William Langlois as celebrant. Friends may meet the family 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 28, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Historic Cemetery.
