Edward J. "Ed" Weesies' Obituary
Edward J. “Ed” Weesies, age 89, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born on March 13, 1936, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Menno “Michael” and Anna (Nordhof) Weesies. He was a proud graduate of Western Michigan Christian High School in 1954, he was part of the first class to complete kindergarten through 12th grade entirely at the school. On October 15, 1954, Ed married the love of his life, Lorraine “Ann” Schutter. Together, they shared nearly 71 years filled with love, laughter, and a legacy of kindness and generosity that touched everyone around them. Ed served his country with honor in the U.S. Army and spent many years as an international marketing manager with Gardner Denver. Later, he owned and operated ServiceMaster until his retirement in 1999. He was a man of deep faith, and a devoted member of East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a cadet leader, deacon, and elder. The church held special meaning for him, not only was it where he and Ann were married, but his parents were also charter members. In later years, he continued his spiritual journey at Ferrysburg Community Church, where he remained actively involved and served as president of several committees. Ed was a true jack-of-all-trades. He loved working in the yard, gardening, and woodworking. An avid outdoorsman, he found great joy in hunting and fishing, especially on trips to Canada. He had a passion for traveling and camping, and he was known to break into spontaneous song, often with lyrics of his own creation. Above all, Ed treasured time with Ann and their family, especially their grandchildren. His generosity was unmatched; whether mowing a neighbor’s lawn, fixing a fence, or lending a hand with any task, Ed was always there before being asked. He and Ann lived out their shared belief in serving others, offering help to anyone in need. Known for his infectious sense of humor, Ed brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a doting grandfather and great-grandfather, and a cherished friend. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Weesies; three children, Mike (Elaine) Weesies, Pam (Doug) LaFayette and Richard (Gayle) Weesies; six grandchildren, Nathan LaFayette, Chris LaFayette, Anna Weesies, Jacob (Kelsey Bosmeijer) Weesies, Tyler Weesies and Logan Weesies; great-granddaughter, Rylie; sister-in-law, Elaine (John) Seaver; and brother-in-law, Ray Wybenga. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Herman (Anne) Weesies; three sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” (Gerrit) Adema, Marguerite Weesies and Phyllis (Peter) VanderWerff; three sisters-in-law, Audrey Wybenga, Irene (Bruce) Wiersema and Delores Schutter; and brother-in-law, Calvin (Sharon) Schutter. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Ferrysburg Community Church, 17785 Mohawk Dr., Spring Lake, MI 49456, with visitation one-hour prior at church.
