Edward Gerritt Wierengo's Obituary
Mr. Edward Gerritt Wierengo, age 88, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2004. He was born March 16, 1916 in Muskegon to Gerritt and Grace (Dykema) Wierengo and lived his entire life in the area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in London as a medic during WWII. Prior to his retirement in 1971, he worked over 30 years as a machinist for Teledyne-Continental Motors. On June 7, 1940, he married the former Clara Klecka in Muskegon and she preceded him in death in 1991. Mr. Wierengo was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed woodworking. Ed was a very caring and devoted brother, father and grandfather. He will be missed by his family and many friends. SURVIVORS include his daughter, Suzanne (John) Ritchie of Whitehall; the joys of his life, 3 grandchildren, Christopher (Laura) Ritchie of Whitehall, Melissa Ritchie of Whitehall, Brent Ritchie of Fairbanks, AK; and his “little something special”, Cayden Ritchie, great-grandson; 1 brother, Willard Wierengo of Muskegon; 3 sisters, Katherine Wolffis of Muskegon, Alberta Mellema of Muskegon, Grace (John) Zandstra of Muskegon; 1 brother-in-law, James (Donna) Klecka of North Muskegon; 1 sister-in-law, Mildred Klecka of North Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Henry, George and John Wierengo, and 2 sisters, Martha Herman and Jeanette DeWall. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the
Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210 with the Rev. Alvin L. Hoksbergen officiating. INTERMENT will follow in Laketon Township Cemetery with Military Honors under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. VISITATION with Mr. Wierengo’s family will be 6-8 PM Monday, 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
