Edward H. Gustafson's Obituary
Edward H. Gustafson, age 66, of Fruitport, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 21, 1943 in Fremont, MI to Ben H. and Leona (Wawsczyk) Gustafson. On July 4, 1987 he married the former Carol L. Schmidt in Nunica.
Ed was a graduate of Ravenna High School and MCC in Muskegon. He had been employed as a Journeyman sheet metal worker with Local #7. Ed attended St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nunica, was a member of NSRA (National Street Rod Association), and the Polish Falcon Hall. Ed and his wife enjoyed their summer home and friends at Silver Lake, the dunes and fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife Carol, 3 daughters: Rita (Dennis) Cherry of Grand Haven, Lori (Tom) Gauthier of Fruitport, and Michele (Don) Miller of Gilbert, AZ; 1 son, Ty and Ann Gustafson of St. Louis, Missouri; his mother, Leona Gustafson of Sarasota, FL; 7 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carol (Ray) Tokarczyk and Cindi (Gordon) Welch both of Florida; 2 brothers, Ben E. (Pam) Gustafson of Cloverville, and Kim (Char) Gustafson of Fruitport; his mother and father-in-law, Edward Sr. and Ardis Schmidt of Nunica; brothers-in-law, Ed (Shirley) Schmidt, and Tom (fiancee' Cherry) Schmidt; and good friend, Jack “get-er-done” Rieger; also several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his father and a daughter Lesa.
The Memorial Service for Ed will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nunica with Rev. William Lahrman officiating. A time of visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions may be made for a special tribute to Ed, c/o his wife, Carol.
