Edwin DeWitt Jr's Obituary
Mr. Edwin DeWitt Jr, age 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at his home surrounded by family with a time of worship. He was born on July 29, 1935 in Muskegon to Edwin Sr and Jeanette (Majeres). Ed married the former Gail Ward on September 11, 1954 in Muskegon and spent 63 wonderful years together and their favorite thing was celebrating every anniversary at a different beach. They were members of Life Change Church in Muskegon. Ed loved and supported Gospel Revival Ministries and Teaching all the Nations. He was a dedicated and loving husband to Gail and spent the 15 years before her passing on January 8, 2018 as her personal caregiver. Ed was a builder by trade and took great pride in his meticulous craftmanship. He and Gail spent their life in the house they built together 60 years ago. He always enjoyed the challenge of a difficult build that others passed up. He was known for his multiple daily lists, detailed storytelling and enjoyed the time spent with his family hunting as well as pitching softball with his friends in his church league. Ed had a strong love for the Lord and turned to his favorite bible verse in times of need, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” Philippians 4:13. Above all else, was Ed’s love for his family. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be deeply missed by his children, Debbie (Terry) Montambo, Michael DeWitt, Mark (Tricia) DeWitt; 11 grandchildren, Heidi (Dave) Clinansmith, Chad Montambo, Adam (Amanda) Montambo, Becki (Corey) Holstine, Jenny (Andy) Grieve, Kaitlyn (Cory) Gould, Hannah Dursema, Joshua DeWitt, Jacob DeWitt, Taylor (Walker) Hopkins, Madelyn DeWitt; 18 great-grandchildren: Lilly, Emily, Jack, Grace, Olivia, Miles, Spencer, Elliot, Sam, Claire, Lydia, Sadie, Owen, Jamie, Christian, Emma, Calvin, and Carson; nieces and nephews; and cat, Smokey. Along with his wife, Gail, Ed was also preceded in death by two daughters, Lori and LeeAnn Jo DeWitt; granddaughter, Dessi Dursema; and siblings, Melvin (Carol) DeWitt and Joanne DeWitt. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00AM Monday, July 26 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, with son-in-law Terry Montambo officiating. VISITATION with the family will be Sunday, July 25 from 6-8PM and one hour prior to the service, from 10-11AM. Memorial contributions in Ed’s memory may be directed to Pilots for Christ (7746 W. 60th Ave., Fremont, MI 49412). Please feel free to share a memory with the family online at www.sytsemafh.com.
