Mr. Edwin Walter Edlund's Obituary
Mr. Edwin Walter Edlund, age 90, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in Muskegon. He was born in Muskegon on April 29, 1923 to Charles and Charlotte (Johnson) Edlund and was a life resident of the area. Mr. Edlund was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was employed by Shaw-Walker for 38 years before retiring in 1980. He was a former member of Samuel Lutheran Church and a past member of the Muskegon Vikings. Mr. Edlund was an outdoor enthusiast and volunteered many hours preserving our local habitat. He was a registered member of the Audubon Society and spent 25 years building, distributing and maintaining Blue Bird houses throughout Norton Shores. Mr. Edlund was an active member of the Muskegon Nature Club and was a board member on the committee to save Whitey’s Woods. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. On May 29, 1947, he married the former Hazel Ida Juhasz at Samuel Lutheran Church in Muskegon and she survives him along with three children, Karin DeHaan of Grand Rapids, Kurt (Kathy) Edlund of Comstock Park and Laurie (Steve) Woodcock of Muskegon; 9 grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) DeHaan, Thomas DeHaan, Michael (Megan) DeHaan, Christopher (Megan) Edlund, Aaron Edlund, Benjamin, Ellen, Theodore and Timothy Woodcock; one great-grandson, Evan and one sister, Jean Siplon. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carl, George, Ralph and Fritz Edlund and four sisters, Karin Taulbe, Wilma Zuidema, Olga Broadbent and Eleanor Czarney. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 5, 2014 at The Lee Chapel 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Pastor Julie Winklepleck officiating. VISITATION will be from 5-8pm Friday, April 4, 2014 and one hour prior to the service. MILITARY HONORS will be performed under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council. MEMORIALS may be made to the Gillette Nature Fund at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park through the Communtiy Foundation of Muskegon County. Mr. Edlund’s family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Jacki and Marylou.
