Mr. Edwin George Oestman's Obituary
Mr. Edwin George Oestman, age 95, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 in Grand Haven, MI. He was born in Harvey, IL on February 23, 1919 and moved to Muskegon as a young man, residing there until moving to Grand Haven in 2011. Ed was a veteran of the United States Navy and served as a signalman in Okinawa during WWII. He was a journeyman sheet metal worker for 33 years before retiring in 1981. Ed was a member of the Muskegon Heights Eagles, the Don Rea VFW Post 8846 and the Grand Haven American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing and watching the Detroit Tigers. Ed cherished time spent with his family and in recent years, enjoyed drives to Lake Michigan. On November 21, 1958, he married the former Viola P. Dekker and she preceded him in death on October 11, 1983. He is survived by three children, Ilene (David) Chase of Saranac, MI, Kathy (Harry) Parmer of Spring Lake, MI and David (Andrea) Oestman of Iron River, MI; one step-daughter, Kathy Kibbie of Pinckney, MI; 7 grandchildren, Steve Parmer, Dawn Parmer, Chuck (Karen) Hilt, Shawn (Michelle) Hilt, Beth (Craig) Olsen, Chris Byrum and Kasey Muljek and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 5, 2014 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Rev. John Brown officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
