Edwin D. Ewers' Obituary
Edwin D. Ewers, age 65, of Grand Haven passed away suddenly on May 2nd, 2008, at his home. He was born in Allegan, Michigan, on May 29th, 1942, to Marie (Van Drie) and Fay Ewers. His mother preceded him in death on October 28th, 1968, and his father on August 4th, 1992.
Edwin lived in Grand Haven since his family moved here in 1950. He graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy in Cuba from 1962-1965 and later worked on the dredge Haines for the Corp of Engineers in the 1970s.
Survivors include three brothers: Fay Ewers, in the VA hospital in Battle Creek, MI, Lawrence (Mai) Ewers of Lakewood, WA, and Eugene (Ruby) Ewers of Castleberry, FL; and three sisters: Margaret Slotman of Dunningville, MI, Frances (Jerry) Stever of Valparaiso, IN, and Emily (Thomas) Alman of Grand Haven; a sister-in-law, Donna Ewers of Muskegon and a brother-in-law, Arthur Dunkel of Iron Mountain, MI. He is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Edwin was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Dunkel and brothers Robert and Donald Ewers; and brother-in-law, Vern Slotman.
The service for Edwin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. Memorials to the family are appreciated. Share memories with the family at their online guest book at www.vbkfuneralhome.com.
