First and foremost, I am sending a sincere and heartfelt note of sympathy to E.J's entire family.
The Glover e-mail lines have been loaded with each of our memories of your husband, father, and grandfather.
I believe my brother Mark is the one that put it the absolute best, because he used E.J.'s words.
I don't think he will mind me sharing.
These are Mark’s words; however, they are felt by our entire family!
“I’m a little late but I am hoping you don’t mind that I add to the thoughtful comments already written. (Thanks Jim for the notice as the OHJ sometimes takes a while to get to GR.)
I had heard recently that his health was not too good. Regarding “To a Louse” I could only remember the first two lines, but recall hearing some of you recite it over the years (all with a better memory than me). . .
Anyway a few months back beneath my Leave Collection and Wildflower Collection I found a handwritten letter that I received from Mr. Johnson (yes, I take after my mother). I had pulled it out meaning to send a note back to EJ, but for various reasons never did. The letter was in reply to a letter I had written to him not long after going to MSU, it was dated 9 Oct 1978. I’ll just share some of what he wrote in the letter:
'I received your card the other day and it made me feel great. . . . I think students often think of their teachers but don’t take the time to let them know. It is fun to hear that some of the things we try to get across are picked up by the students. . . . The Glover family has always been special to me. . . If you have any good ideas for Advanced Biology, now that you’re out in the world, let me know. . . Learn as much as you can (in college). It will make learning throughout life easier. . . When things get tough and nothing seems to make sense, take a walk, visit a friend. It will be much clearer when you get back. . I still miss and love all of you, remember? That’s why I’m concerned.'
"I think as we go through life on earth, we find there are special people that touch, guide or inspire us, or have an impact on who we are. EJ certainly was one of them. “
Time has moved faster each day……. However, I am certain E.J. knew we all felt very highly of him!
I pray that everyone in heaven knows the last stanza to a life lesson poem; which a Biology teacher felt was important enough to memorize. I do remember it all!I do remember its meaning.
Much Love,
Karen (Glover) Pyrett - the last of the ten
P.S. Lis, you are in my heart, tears and prayers!hugs, Karen##imported-begin##Karen Michele Glover-Pyrett##imported-end##
