Eilita G. (Smaglinski) Walsworth's Obituary
Mrs. Eilita Gertrude (Smaglinski) Walsworth, age 91, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on August 2, 1917, the daughter of Albert and Gertrude (Dolan) Smaglinski. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Eilita was a homemaker, volunteer for Gray Ladies and the American Red Cross, and worked for 12 years as a certified nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon where she worked on the orthopedic floor and took pride in treating her patients with compassion. Eilita was generous with people, even those she barely knew. She spent quality time with people when they needed someone. Eilita loved working in her yard, walking on the beach near her home and watching sunsets over Lake Michigan. She was a strong-willed and independent-minded woman who took on projects difficult to imagine for someone in a wheelchair – including moving large garden rocks and heavy furniture – especially when she was sure no one was watching. Eilita enjoyed car trips, including short jaunts to Whitehall for hamburgers and North Muskegon for ice cream. She loved caring for animals – most recently a 24-pound former stray black cat named “Eddie”. Eilita is survived by her daughter, Laurie (David) Walsworth-LeMieux and special granddaughter, Heather (Will) Pollack; her son, Ron (Diana) Walsworth; her daughter, Eleanor Kerr; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald and her daughter, Suellen Davis. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION with Eilita’s family will be one hour prior to Mass, 10-11 AM Wednesday, at the church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to The NOAH Project or Senior Resources. Arrangements handled by
