Elaine Bolthouse, age 87, of Spring Lake passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center. She was born August 20, 1930, in Spring Lake to Adrian and Nellie (Geerling) Bolthouse. Elaine had resided at Read Obituary
Fond memories of Elaine will always be remembered by her Arizona family. Our mom, Alma (Geerling) Van Leeuwen always had great stories to tell about things Elaine and her did when they were young.Spring Lake, the old Holiday Inn and Prospect Street will not be the same without Elaine!

I have very fond memories of Miss Bolthouse. I was a member of the "Mary Music Whiters" back in the 1964-65 and 1965-66 school years. The "Mary Music Whiters" was the choir at Mary A. White Elementary School directed by Miss Bolthouse, and as I recall we performed some pretty neat programs (one, in particular, that I remember was a collection of songs from the Civil War era). I was fortunate to have been able to see Miss Bolthouse at the Grand Pines Assisted Living Center on several occasions over the past 3 years or so, as her apartment was just down the hallway from my parents' apartment. May Miss Bolthouse rest in peace.

Elaine was my baby sitter, assisted my mother when she had a birthday party for me. She was our neighbor as I grew up in Spring Lake. I have so many fine memories of her. May she rest in peace
Elaine gave gifts that were unexpected and generous. My first encounter of her kind acts was when my son was 5 years old and scheduled for a muscle biopsy at the U of MI hospital. Elaine gave him a surprise package of small toys for his stay at the hospital. From then on my son always referred to her as "Lady Elaine".

I’m so sorry to hear of her passing, and wish very much that I would have been able to talk to her before now. I just posted a memory of her on Facebook - how influential she was as my elementary music teacher. I attended Griffin Ele and remember so many of the songs she taught us. Particularly when I was in 6th grade she arranged a concert of Irish songs that we performed for our parents. I’ve remembered those songs through the years and sang them to my four children and now sing them to my grandsons. Oh Danny Boy, Molly Malone, Mike McGilligan, McNamara, Too Ra Loo Ra Loo ral, and many more. She had a huge impact on me and I wish I could have told her that.
Visiting with Cousin Elaine was always a joy. I appreciated her filling in as Organist at Community Church of Douglas at short notice. She sent flowers for special occasions
Such a dignified lady, I only learned recently of her only wearing navy and white.

I remember Miss Bolthouse and music at Mary A. White. Her encouragement was the reason I started playing cello in 4th grade. I will never forget her wonderful spirit. She was a gift.
I remember Miss Bolthouse teaching music at Ferry School. Tremendous patience to work with children at various levels of ability and interest. A wonderful teacher!
I had her as a Music Teacher! She was such a wonderful Lady!
