Elaine M. Haase's Obituary
Elaine M. Haase of Spring Lake, a lifelong resident of West Michigan, died Wednesday, August 5, 2020. She was born on January 1, 1933 to Anton and Lena Johnson in Muskegon. Elaine met her husband, Harold on September 6, 1949 at Muskegon High School, which was the first day of their senior year. She was an honor graduate from North Muskegon High School in 1949 and they were married on May 4, 1951 in Muskegon. Elaine and Harold enjoyed almost 70 years of marriage. She worked in many roles but eventually bought Mardi Fabrics in Grand Haven and owned it for 12 years before selling in 1989 to enjoy retirement with her husband. Elaine was an avid golfer, enjoying her women's league on Thursday mornings during the summer months in Michigan. Much of her retirement was spent in Davenport, Florida enjoying the warm weather, friends, and golfing. As an avid golfer her biggest highlight was three hole-in-ones. Elaine was proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchild, and she was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Art Johnson and Carl Johnson and sister Ruth Morse. She is survived by her sisters, Darlene Sarasin and Norma Scott; brothers, Paul Johnson, Vern Johnson and Larry Johnson; her husband, Harold; sons, Arthur (Cris) Haase, Douglas (Kathy) Haase and Jeffery (Jennifer) Haase; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM underneath the south portico of The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation with the family will be held one-hour prior. Internment will take place at Spring Lake Cemetery following the service.
