Elaine J. Haglund's Obituary
Elaine Joyce Haglund, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Muskegon, MI, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. She was born in Muskegon on August 20, 1937, to her parents Garret and Evelyn (Heethuis) Hazekamp. She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1955, and then went on to work in the offices of Sealed Power Corp and GTE. In 1960 she met and married the love of her life, Wallace “Wally” Haglund, who faithfully cared for her as her health declined. Elaine enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking for family gatherings and friends and decorating the house for every season. She enjoyed being a Muskegon High School band and orchestra parent. She was an encouraging, unselfish, and caring woman who was devoted to her family. She was a prayer warrior and was very involved with her church, singing in the choir, helping serve Wednesday night supper, and helping with the Children’s Church. Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Wally; three children: David Haglund (Alexandria, VA), Susan Cassidy (Grand Rapids, MI) and Pamela Haglund (Grand Rapids, MI); and her “favorite boy in the whole wide world”, her grandson Colin Cassidy. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Garret and Evelyn Hazekamp; son in-law, Capt. Paul J. Cassidy; and sister, Lois Palsrok. A FUNERAL for Elaine will be taking place at 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444. VISITATION will be taking place an hour prior to the service from 5:00-6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made out to the Muskegon Rescue Mission or Samaritan’s Purse. The family would like to extend special thanks to Harbor Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care. Please sign the family’s online guestbook and share memories at sytsemafh.com
