Mrs. Eleanor J. Veurink's Obituary
Our precious wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Mrs. Eleanor J. Veurink, age 83, passed from this earth to Heaven early Friday morning, February 8, 2013. She was born October 11, 1929, to Arthur and Winifred (Sikkenga) Hasse in Muskegon and lived here all her life. On November 3, 1950, she married her sweetheart, Kenneth L. Veurink. He survives her, along with three children, James W. (Gordon Bieske) Veurink of East Lansing, Judy K. (David) MacRae, Holt, Michigan, and Janice L. (Michael) Andersen, of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Andi (Ryan) Barger, Bethany Allen, Heather Allen; 1 great-grandson, Eghan; and devoted brother, Harold (Elaine) Haase of Spring Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Arlaine Marcil; one brother, Eugene Haase. Serving people was Eleanor’s life-long passion, and she did so through her family, church, and community. She enjoyed music and exercising, the women’s Bible study, and the Friendship Ministry for special needs young adults. She was an active member of Fruitport Christian Reformed Church and the former East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church. Eleanor worked for Muskegon Public Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1992, and had also been employed by Western Michigan Christian High School. The family extends a special thank you to those who loved and cared for her at Christian Care Nursing Center. THE FUNERAL SERVICE celebrating the life of Eleanor will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fruitport Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Jerry Postema officiating. VISITATION at The Lee Chapel, 6291 South Harvey Street, Norton Shores, Michigan (231) 798-1100 will be from 2-5 pm Sunday. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
