Mrs. Elfriede "Elvie" Bridges' Obituary
Mrs. Elfriede “Elvie” Bridges, 93, went to be with the Lord, early Sunday morning, July 20, 2014. She was born October 10, 1920 to Bernard and Isabella (Munro) Geissmann in Brisbane, Australia, and moved to this area in 1946. Elvie was a Registered Nurse, working at Hackley Hospital for over 40 years. She stayed active as a volunteer with International Aid, Harbor Hospice, the American Nurses Association, and Red Cross Disaster Relief. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church, and served as a missionary in Nigeria, Afghanistan, Honduras, and the Kentucky Mountain Mission. On September 2, 1944 she married Daniel L. “Roy” Bridges in Australia, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1996. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Daniel B. Bridges of Muskegon, Larry L. Bridges of Grand Haven, Terry C. (Judy) Bridges of Rockford, Robin (John) Policka of Muskegon; 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Philip Geissmann of Australia; 1 sister, Ada Ellen Nielsen of Australia. She was also preceded in death by 1 son, Randy W. Bridges; 1 brother, Macolm; 2 sisters, Christobel and Pat. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Hope Reformed Church, 1878 Evanston Ave., with Rev. Steven Hyma officiating. There will be no visitation.
