Elizabeth Y. "Betsy" Colella's Obituary
Elizabeth Y. “Betsy” Colella, age 82 passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019. She was born November 13, 1936 in Muskegon to Vernon and Maude (James) Burghduf. On October 2, 1954, she married Bernard L. “Ben” Colella, Sr. and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1985. Betsy worked at Meijer for over 31 years prior to retirement in 2000. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she had been an Elder and a Deacon. SURVIVORS include 3 children: Patricia (Randy) Voorhies of Muskegon, Bernard L. “Bernie” Colella, Jr. of Texas, James “Jim” (Tam) Colella of California; 7 grandchildren: Becky Biesiada, Leanne Voorhies, Michael Voorhies, Rachel Colella, Kayla Colella, Joshua Beard, and Sonia Langiano; 7 great-grandchildren: Lauren, Andrew, Zach, Ben, Samantha, Summer, and Joe; brother, Bob (Carole) Burghduf of Muskegon; 2 sisters: Bonnie Gebhart, Helen Lensegrav both of Muskegon; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Jim Thies. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Burghduf and 2 sisters: Luella Harmsen and Virginia Markavich. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held for Betsy at 11:00 AM Friday, July 12, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church (2577 Wickham Dr.) with Pastor Jim Rausch officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Presbyterian Church.
