Elizabeth Fodrocy's Obituary
Our mother, grandma and great-grandma, Elizabeth (Vida) Fodrocy passed into the arms of her Lord on April 3, 2009 at the age of 96. Elizabeth Fodrocy was born August 27, 1912, in Muskegon, MI to Rose (Santo) and Stephen Vida and lived in the Muskegon area her entire life. In her younger years she worked at the Amazon Knitting Company and the Muskegon Candy Factory until she met and married the love of her life Peter Fodrocy on June 22, 1935. Together they raised 11 children with love and faith in their home in Muskegon Heights before building their retirement home in Twin Lake. Elizabeth was a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandma who was proud of her Hungarian heritage and always had pogochos and kolache bars to share with her children and grandchildren when they visited (her homemade noodles were the best, too)! For many years she would help Pete in their huge vegetable garden and would can the best tomatoes and pickles and give them away to others. She loved singing, flower gardening, a good strong cup of coffee and had an interest in drawing, never thinking she was quite good enough! She and Pete loved playing the card game Pedro with family. If you were at their home on a Sunday afternoon, you better believe you would be drawn into a game or two. Elizabeth was also a woman of tremendous faith and this was one area of her life that was of utmost importance. We know she said many a prayer for all of us to guide us along our way in life. She was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been a member of the Altar Society there. We love her and will miss her dearly, but we also know her loved ones gone before her are happy to welcome her to her new home. Elizabeth’s survivors include: children, Margaret Anderson of Montclair, NJ, Karen (Tom) Dotta of Hollister, CA, Kathy (Mark) Piasecki of Santa Barbara, CA, Mary Ann Fodrocy of Muskegon, Janice (Denny) Hansen of Phoenix, AZ, Bernadette (Mark) Glover of Muskegon Hts., Ellen (Bob) Haan of Lafayette, IN, Joseph (Sharon) Fodrocy, Michael Fodrocy and Lorraine Fodrocy of Muskegon. Grandma Betty also leaves behind 23 beloved grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. She leaves two sisters, Margaret Vida and Helen Vida of Muskegon and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Peter and husband Peter, a son-in-law, Phil Anderson, brothers, Joe, Frank, John and Steve Vida and sisters, Rose Vivian, Mary Jozsa, Theresa Javinsky and Julia Vida. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Brown as celebrant. VISITATION will be Monday 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Sanctuary at the Park nursing home for their loving and gentle care of our mom. Also, to our sister Mary Ann Fodrocy who was always there for mom – you are a true blessing! “For I am convinced that neither death nor life…..nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Romans 8:38-39
