Elizabeth M. "Boots" Hartsema's Obituary
Elizabeth M. “Boots” Hartsema, age 95, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018. She was born October 8, 1922 in Muskegon to William and Flora (Spyke) McCann and had been a life resident of the area. Boots graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and was a member of the DELTA PHI Sorority. On February 9, 1946, she married Julius A. “Jute” Hartsema in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2012. She was a school teacher for 23 years for the Orchard View Public school system prior to her retirement in 1970. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Muskegon Woman’s Club, belonged to the Retired Teachers Association and the PEO Women’s Organization. Boots had a love for music, and sang at many funerals, weddings, and in the church choir for many years. She also enjoyed doing crafts, especially wreaths to hang on doors. SURVIVORS include two daughters: Patricia Ann (Paul) Mardirosian of Grand Rapids, Betsy Anne (Dale) Rogers of Northern California; two grandchildren: Brittany Anne Brown and H. Blake Brown. She was also preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Seminole Shores Assisted Living Center of Norton Shores, Homcare, Inc. of Roosevelt Park, and also Hospice of Michigan for the exceptional care, compassion, and support given to Boots and the family. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church (3225 Roosevelt Rd., Muskegon, MI 49441) with Pastor Paul Appold officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in the Resurrection Garden at the church. MEMORIALS to the Muskegon Rescue Mission, Trinity Lutheran Church, or Hospice of Michigan will be appreciated.
