Elizabeth J. "Betsy" Hoover-Mitchell's Obituary
Elizabeth J. “Betsy” Hoover-Mitchell, age 52, passed Wednesday, January 8, 2020, after courageously battling cancer for over three years. She was born on April 20, 1967 in Muskegon, MI to Richard and Katherine (Davenport) Hoover. She graduated from Western Michigan University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Political Science and Economics but found she really enjoyed teaching children. Betsy dedicated her whole life to teaching, in Michigan as well as Florida. She most recently taught at Muskegon Heights Public School Academy. On August 30, 2008, she married Kenneth Mitchell and together they cherished 11 years of endless memories. She was known to be an adventurous spirit and was up for just about anything. She had an itch to travel and enjoyed spending time in the UP and all-around Europe, especially Italy. Betsy loved spending time at the beach admiring the beautiful sunsets across Lake Michigan. Above all things, she loved spending time with her friends and family. She will always be remembered for every travel destination or concert being the “best thing she ever saw”. She was a vivacious and cheerful-spirited woman who will be missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth “Ken” Mitchell; daughter, Amanda (Jason) Cooper; 2 grandchildren, Cameren Cooper and Katelynn Cooper; father, Richard Hoover; Step-mother, Cheri Hoover; 2 brothers, Charles (Rae) Hoover and James (Beverly) Hoover; sister, Carla (Jamie) Givens; 2 nieces, Chelsea Hoover and Angelina Givens; 2 nephews, Matthew Hoover and Trevor Givens; and her favorite dog, Hodge Podge. The family would also like to share a special thanks to all of Betsy’s friends who supported her throughout her journey with cancer…and in particular her Aunt Jane who was always available as a sounding board. She was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Hoover; and niece Ally Givens. A Celebration of Life will be held from 12-3:00PM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the White Lake Eagles Aerie # 3214, 1204 S. Lake St., Whitehall, MI 49461.
