Elizabeth R. "Betty" (Kauffman) Huss' Obituary
Elizabeth “Betty” (Kauffman) Huss, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at The Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. She was born July 29, 1934, in Muskegon, MI, to Marion and Cleta Whitsell. She met and married Robert Kauffman in 1953, and they were married for 36 years and had 7 children before he preceded her in death in 1990. Betty reconnected with her childhood sweetheart, Gordon Huss. They were married July 20, 2008, and he was a devoted husband and loving caregiver until her death.
Betty was a talented cook by taste and her dishes were never comparable to anyone’s attempt to duplicate. She enjoyed all crafts, including sewing, which she also mastered. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Gordon; children, Larry (Cindy) Kauffman, Jon (Jeanne) Kauffman, Thomas (Valarie) Kauffman, Robert Kauffman, Frank (Laury) Kauffman, Daniel Kauffman, and Kathleen (Scott) McKellar; stepchildren, Sue (Jeff) Ramseyer, Robert (Julie) Huss and Michelle Innis; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Jean Whitsell; and special friend and niece Sandi Lindsey. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, William and Larry Whitsell.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Harbor Hospice for their expertise and support while caring for Betty.
A FUNERAL MASS will be 11 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St., Norton Shores, MI 49441) with Fr. Michael Olson presiding. VISITATION with the family will take place from 5-7 PM on Monday, April 1, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444) and 1 hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS in honor of Betty may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Poppen Hospice Residence.
