Sally and family,
You and your sisters have been such a blessing to your mom. I know your folks meant the world to you. I have fond memories of the McCarty’s Store, growing up! Your folks were all around great people! My sympathies to all of you!

I was blessed to have known Joan & Leon for the last almost decade. Joan & Leon were kind & genuine, that reflected in their daughters who I felt honored to have the opportunity to know. I was heart sick after returning from a trip to learn Joan had passed. Yet it is bitter sweet, knowing she is with her beloved husband in Heaven; what joy as they reunited. I was lucky to have had many talks with Joan & she was very wise due to the challenges & long life she lived; her stories always amazing. She shared her love of life, the memories of raising her daughters on Bills Lake & how extremely proud she was of her family. Also she shared the challenges of running a store at their home & how that shaped a strong work ethic & bond with not only her family, but the connection the McCarty's were blessed to have with their community. Joan was extremely funny & she shared that humor daily. She was the life of the party truly. She brought laughter & everyone wanted to hear what she had said The hearing aides were turned up when Joan made a funny comment about a situation. She liked to play games & quite often would bring ice cream bars to the table for us all to enjoy. Recently she wrote a big portion of our comedy readers theater about experiences at diners. It was great & we took the show on the road to share laughter. Joan's positivity was contagious. No matter what Joan was dealing with, eyesight or hearing issues & all the numerous ailments of living a long life, she found humor & felt blessed. Her faith was immense & that greatly encouraged others. Joan & Leon were exceptional. And even with all their life accomplishments, never once did they show any judgement onto others. Infact Joan was very compassionate & concerned. I loved them both Especially grew to love Joan over the years & her girls. I will miss my dear friend, My heart goes out to her family at this time, they have lost the best mother possible. I was blessed to know Joan during some big trials. She was there when I lost my own mom, my husband & my job. Joan was like a mom to me & she knew how to comfort. Thank you for sharing your mom with me, I could never forget her or the impact she made.
The McCartys were so much fun and so welcoming. And their standup comedy routines of their favorite stories rivaled professional comics. Their daughters inherited that wonderful sense of humor. Mrs. McCarty brought light into everyone’s life. She is cherished. I was honored to know her and to consider her design fees Joyous and Amy to be great friends.
June, Joy, Amy, Sally and Families,
So sorry to hear about the passing of your Mother yesterday. What a truly wonderful and remarkable Lady she was. She always had a smile for everyone, and was genuinely interested in how everyone else was doing. It was great to see her last August at my Mom's 90th birthday party. We had a great conversation, and as usual......she had us laughing!
It's remarkable when I think of the history of our two families. Our parents mostly grew up together, and so did you girls and us Hogan kids. Remember northern MI camping in that monstrous green army tent that your Dad would put up? Always the talk of the campground!
Your Mom will be missed by all who were Blessed to have met her in her life's journey. We sincerely hope that your folks are already fishing together again, and that the fish are biting!
Keeping you in our Thoughts and Prayers,
Jim and Kim Hogan and Family
