Elizabeth "Betty" Millis' Obituary
Elizabeth May Millis, age 89, passed away in Grand Haven, MI, on Friday, October 10, 2025. She was born to Alfred and Hilda (Bender) Monroe in Hart, MI, on May 18, 1936, and she moved to the Muskegon area when she was young. On November 26, 1955, she married Earl Millis Jr, and the two of them spent 53 wonderful years building a family together until he preceded her in death in 2009. Betty worked as a waitress at Russ’ for 18 years, retiring in 2006.
Betty loved to travel, and she made many trips over the years to Tennessee, Branson, MO, Las Vegas, NV, and many other locations. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, camping, square dancing with Earl, and playing Bingo. She had a sweet tooth and always had room for desserts. She was very social and was always the life of the party.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by four children: Georgia (Ron) Brandenburg, Robert (Marie DeBack) Millis, Barbara Featherstone, and Raymond (Barb) Millis; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Marvin Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Monroe and Hilda Phillipo; husband, Earl Millis Jr; daughter, Connie Millis-Larson; granddaughter, Lisa Suchomski; two siblings, John Phillipo and Carol Herbert; and close friend, Judy Ferris.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held for Betty at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444. VISITATION will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, as well as an hour prior to the funeral on Thursday. Those attending the service are encouraged to wear purple to honor Betty’s favorite color! The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff at Lakeshore Assisted Living for the wonderful care they gave Betty over the last five years.
