Elizabeth E. Hofman's Obituary
Mrs. Elizabeth Elvertta Hofman, 92, passed Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence, Muskegon, MI. Beth was born Feb. 27, 1917 to Curtis and Ossie (Meissner) Vernon in South Bend, IN. On June 10, 1942 she married Raphael Hofman, who preceded her in death on April 2, 1990. Beth, along with her siblings, Myrtle Clarke, Orata Trojan, Harry, Werner, Charles, and Jess Vernon, (all deceased), grew up in Alpena, MI. She graduated Alpena County Normal Training School; attended Huntington College in IN; Central Michigan University; and Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH. Beth taught elementary through high school and was especially proud of her years teaching math and serving as Dean of girls at Warrensville Heights High School in Cleveland. After retiring, Beth and Ray moved to Del Ray Beach, FL, where they enjoyed many wonderful years together. Elizabeth moved to Michigan in May of 2008 to be with family. She leaves to cherish her memory; dear sisters-in-law Shirley Hofman of Evanston, IL, and Ruth Vernon of St. Cloud, FL; dear cousin, Dorothy Faultersack of Coloma, MI; as well as many caring nieces and nephews; who will forever remember her gentle , loving and thoughtful guidance, as well as her generous spirit. She also leaves her great friends in Del Ray. Aunt Beth enjoyed memberships in many organizations, but her favorites were the Association for Retired Citizens (where she served as treasurer until her move to Michigan), The Breakfast Club, The Garden/Travel Club, The National Education Association, and the Democratic National Party. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will take place at the annual family reunion in Michigan. Her ashes will join Ray’s at Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton, FL.
