Elizabeth Gotschall Harryman's Obituary
Elizabeth Gotschall Harryman passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at her home. She was born October 23, 1916 to Grover Cleveland Gotschall and Mary McCall Gotschall in Massillon, OH. She was a graduate of Allegany College in Meadville, PA and was a professional actress and homemaker. She performed with The Cleveland Playhouse, New York’s Chautauqua Festival, the Lone Ranger series on WXYZ radio in Detroit, Gospel Films, Port City Playhouse and the Overbrook Theater in Muskegon, and Brilliance Corporation in Grand Haven. An activist for historic preservation, she was Chair of Muskegon’s Historic District Commission for eleven years and was instrumental in saving many historic structures in the City of Muskegon and well known for protecting the residential and historic integrity of the Jefferson Street Neighborhood. Her survivors include three sons, George (Sandi) Harryman of N. Muskegon, Jim (Joan) Harryman of Hart, MI and Tom (Fran) Harryman of Muskegon; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Jillian, Angela, Sarah, Hudson, Tamara, Trevor and Nathan; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; her loving care-givers Bridgette Sigler, Janda Van Dyke, Marcia Sieplinga and Cathy Wilks; and her close neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Margaret, two brothers, George and Samuel Gotschall and her former husband, Dr. James E. Harryman. A MEMORIAL VISITATION will be planned in mid-June.
