Elizabeth U. Griffes' Obituary
Mrs. Elizabeth U. Griffes, age 68, passed away Tuesday morning at Mercy Hospital following a long illness. Elizabeth was born in Williamston, MI on October 11, 1939 to Cyril and Marguerite (Schneider) Morris. The family moved to Muskegon when Liz was a young girl and was a graduate of Muskegon Catholic Central. She married Mr.Bryce E. Griffes in Muskegon on August 8, 1965 and moved to Mears in 1980 when they purchased the Cortland Lanes in Hart. Together Bryce and Elizabeth operated the lanes until retiring in 2000. Throughout the years Liz was an avid bowler and bowled in several different leagues. She also enjoyed camping. She is survived by her: husband, Bryce; three children, Flora (Daniel) Stout of Norton Shores, William (Rose) Ruffilo of Florida and Leon (Lorann) Griffes of Pentwater; brothers, Edward and Joseph Morris of Muskegon; sisters, Lorretta (Walt) Jones of Copemish, MI and Mary (Robert Sadowski) of Grand Rapids; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
