Elmer Emmons' Obituary
Mr. Elmer Ernest Emmons, Sr., age 89, passed away Monday, September 20, 2004 at his home. Mr. Emmons was born September 18, 1915 to Ernest H. and Eunice (Hively) Emmons in Thompsonville, MI. On March 8, 1937, he married the former Sophie Ann Buway in Muskegon. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Muskegon and St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Pentwater. Mr. Emmons was the owner and operator of Emmons Construction Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He took great pride in his trade and especially helping his children with their personal building projects. Elmer enjoyed fishing, hunting and attending family activities. He is SURVIVED by his beloved wife of 67 years, Sophie Emmons; 3 children, Elmer E. (Oljie) Emmons Jr. of Yorktown, VA, Dennis Lee (Susan) Emmons of N. Muskegon and Marsha Kay (Gerald) Walter of Ravenna; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Lee Emmons. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held Thursday, 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, 12285 Heights Ravenna Rd., Ravenna, MI with Father Ernest J. Bernott as celebrant. INTERMENT: Ravenna Cemetery. VISITATION will be Tuesday, 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. with Rosary being prayed at 7:00 P.M. at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210.
