Eloda L. Maxey's Obituary
Mrs. Eloda Louise Maxey, age 89, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016, peacefully at her home. She was born November 29, 1926 to Alex and Barbara (Aerts) Somers and had been a Muskegon resident all of her life. On August 9, 1947, she married Phillip “Bud” Maxey in Muskegon. They were married for over 60 years prior to Phillip passing in 2008. Together they were longtime, devoted members of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Muskegon. Eloda worked in the hot lunch program of McLaughlin School for over 15 years prior to retiring. She also was a proud homemaker who enjoyed playing bingo, cooking and an occasional trip to the casino. SURVIVORS include her 8 children, Cherie Hall, Steven (Krista) Maxey, Cindy (David) Darcy, Kevin Maxey, Timothy Maxey, Phillip Maxey, Thomas Maxey and Lisa (James) Cook; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, James (Shirley) Somers, Tom (Shirley) Somers; and her sister, Barbara Fraser. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Donald Hall. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, August 22, 2016 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum presiding. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum. Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 5-8 PM with a Scripture service to be held at 4:30 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100.
