Eloise Joyce South's Obituary
Mrs. Eloise “Ellie” Joyce (Schuitema) South, age 90, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Poppen Residence following a brief illness. She was born May 6, 1923 in Muskegon to Henry L. and Matilda V. (Johnson) Schuitema and lived her entire life in the area. On September 23, 1942, she married Robert Lee South in Muskegon and he preceded her in death in 1997. Prior to retirement in 1990, Ellie worked as a payroll clerk for Brunswick Corp and retired from the Muskegon Piston Ring. Ellie was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church where she was well-known for her Swedish Rye Bread and pies. Ellie was a devoted Detroit Tigers Fan and rarely missed listening to the games. She was also a sports fan of MSU and enjoyed watching game shows or shopping the QVC and HSN channels on television. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Barbara (John) Crandall of Muskegon, Bruce (Lynda) South of Milwaukee; 6 grandchildren, Matt Crandall of Spring Lake, Jennifer (Jay) Nickels of Las Vegas, Leigh Anne (David) Muller, Wendy (Mark) Kietzmann, Melanie (Dean) Strom all of Milwaukee, Jim (Robin) South of Minneapolis; 14 great-grandchildren, Vince, Matthew, Breann, Jaxon, Jaren, Steven, Stephanie, Sarah, Katie, Molly, Lindsay, Holly, Lauren, James; and 1 brother, Sherwood (Shirley) Schuitema of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. Ellie was also preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Max Schuitema, and 1 sister, Virginia Radke. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Samuel Lutheran Church (540 Houston) with Pastor Marcy Miller officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Lakeside Cemetery. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service, 2-3 PM Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Samuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
