Elsie Louise Darcy's Obituary
Elsie Louise Darcy, age 94, passed away Wednesday morning, February 26, 2025. She was born April 11, 1930 in Muskegon to Uno William and Esther Julia (Lindblom) Johnson. Elsie was a 1948 graduate of Ravenna High School. On November 26, 1949, she married William Bert Darcy at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Muskegon and had celebrated 68 years by each other’s side until William's passing on April 2, 2018. She was a former member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Nunica and a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Muskegon. For many years she served as a 4H Leader along with her friend, Ione Hittle and also drove a school bus for the Ravenna School District. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, dancing, playing cards (perfect hand in cribbage), reading, and working in her flowers. For 27 years, she and William spent the winter months in Florida enjoying the sun and warmer weather. But most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending all of their special events. Elsie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. SURVIVORS include six children: Nancy Mayfield of Texas, Sue Buckner of Nunica, Larry Darcy of Ravenna, Richard (Mary) Darcy of Coopersville, David Darcy of North Muskegon, and Daniel (Melba) Darcy of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Darcy; brothers: Richard and Eric Johnson; and two sisters: Ruth Sokolowski and Rose Goree. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Chestnut Fields, especially Tess, for the loving care given to Elsie and her family as well as Ashlee and Krysta from Gentiva Hospice, and Bobbie Hinkley for her love and expertise in caring for our mother. A Memorial Service for Elsie will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Sullivan Community Church (3951 Barnes Rd., Ravenna, MI 49451). Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM the day of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice (625 Kenmore Ave., Unit 115, Grand Rapids, MI 49546) or the Sullivan Community Church (3951 Barnes Rd., Ravenna, MI 49451).
