Eluterio Mendez's Obituary
Mr. Eluterio Mendez, age 79, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 21, 2005. He was born January 11, 1926 to Juan and Sabina (DeHoyos) Mendez in Uvalde, Texas, and moved to Muskegon from Wisconsin in 1950. Mr. Mendez worked at C.W.C. Textron for 30 years before retiring and had been a member of the Latin American Club. He loved music, especially playing his saxophone with his band, the Tero Mendez Orchestra. He enjoyed cooking and The Detroit Tigers. Mr. Mendez was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. On January 16, 1949 he married Ofelia Amaya in Crystal City, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2004. SURVIVORS include 8 children, Cristina (the late Jesus) Marinez, Sylvia (Alfonso) Rodriguez, Diana (Juan) Estrada, David (Evelyn) Mendez, Gloria (Paul) Ramirez, Arturo (Lynnelle) Mendez, Juan Mendez, Patricia (Scott) Haiker; 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ernestina Calderon, Armandina Cano. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jose Carlos Mendez; granddaughter, Melissa Marinez; great-grandson, Isaiah Garza; 6 brothers and sisters. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Friday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Olson presiding. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Ave.,(231) 726-5210 will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday, with the Rosary prayed at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening.
