Elwood J. Pickering's Obituary
Elwood J. Pickering, age 73, passed away January 21, 2019 at his home. He was born March 30, 1945 in Muskegon to Glen E. and Margaret (Boak) Pickering and was a life resident of the area. Woody served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War and was a member of VFW Post #7729. Prior to retirement in 2008, he worked as a custodian for Ravenna Public Schools. SURVIVORS include his children, Ann (James) Frost, Sherry Pickering, Tammy (Benjamin) Spencer, Elwood (Samantha) Pickering; 10 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Robert (Dawn) Pickering, Albert Pickering, Butch Pickering; 5 sisters, Glenda Madison, Betty Black, Cathy (Gordon) Wagner, Terry (John) McGuire, Barb (Walt) Roberge; and many nieces and nephews. Woody was preceded in death by his grandson, Richard Konopinski, his parents, and siblings, Martin Pickering, Sue Smith, Louise and Lorane Pickering, and Juliana Pickering. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Living Word Church of Muskegon (1551 Wood St.) with Pastor Tim Cross officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery with Military Honors offered by the Honor Guard of VFW #7729. VISITATION will be held 5-8 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442.
