Emil John Segelstrom's Obituary
Mr. Emil John Segelstrom, age 88, passed away Saturday morning, April 16, 2011 at Mercy VNS Hospice House. He was born September 19, 1922 in Muskegon to Emil J. and Bertha (Jullerat) Segelstrom, and resided his entire life in the Muskegon area. Emil was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a paratrooper during WWII. He retired in 1980 from Teledyne Continental Motors, after having worked 34 years as a machinist. Emil enjoyed boating and coin collecting, and was a member of VFW #7729 and the Muskegon Conservation Club. On December 14, 1946 he married the former Beverly June Huston, and she survives him along with 7 children, Terry (Tom) Ryder of Muskegon, Joan (Dan) Port of Muskegon, Alvin (Linda) Segelstrom of Muskegon, Roger Segelstrom of Muskegon, Lois (Vince) Montalvo of Montague, Emil “Butch” (Barb) Segelstrom of Muskegon, Kathy (Mark) Stevens of Muskegon; 23 grandchildren, Pete (& Michele), Jason, James (& Lori), Karla (& Craig), Kevin (& Stacey), Ashley, Jodie (& Greg), Cheri (& Jerry), Jeff, Cindi, Tami, Missy (& Josh), Tabitha (& Jesse), Joe, Andy, Dakota, Dustin, Chris, Jill (& Jeff), Jacklyn (& Gary), Richard (& Shawn), David, Rachel (&David), Shelby (& Cody); 22 great-grandchildren, Emily, Pierson, Makala, Christian, Anna, Ella, Jeremy, Stephanie, Jared, Katie, Jacob, Ethan, Addison, Nevaeh, Hilary, Joshua, Courtney, Kaleb, Josse, Trevor, Carissa, and Christopher; 3 sisters, Marge Senf, Ida McClees both of Muskegon, and Judy Kosheba of Ravenna; 1 sister-in-law, Marilyn Segelstrom of Muskegon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Segelstrom in 2010; his daughter-in-law, Louella Segelstrom (Roger’s wife) in 2006; his parents; 3 brothers, David, George and Robert; and 4 sisters, Elizabeth, Catherine, Jane and Margaret. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, April 21, 2011 at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210, with his son-in-law, Dan Port, officiating. INTERMENT will follow at Egelston Township Cemetery with full military honors offered by the veterans of VFW Post #7729.
